SpreadEx is an established betting company that has been trading since 1999 and is based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. The company was founded by Jonathan Hufford who wanted to make spread betting more accessible.

When visiting the SpreadEx website, you'll notice that there are three different accounts you can open.

SpreadEx started out as a spread betting service in 1999 but added a fixed-odds sportsbook product to their offerings seven years later in May 2006 which was shortly followed by the addition of their financial trading platform.

Spread betting works differently to traditional fixed-odds betting as you will be used to when betting with bookmakers such as Bet365, Betfair, Paddy Power and others. Although we will touch on spread betting in this review, our main focus will be on SpreadEx's fixed-odds sportsbook and how it compares to the bigger and more mainstream bookies.

Is SpreadEx Safe?

SpreadEx has been trading as a spread-betting platform for over 20 years and is considered to be one of the best in the industry. Their sportsbook has been operating since 2006 and so have over a decade of experience in providing their service.

Spreadex Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and for UK sportsbook customers, they are licenced and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission as any reputable bookmaker should be.

Customers funds at SpreadEx are given 'Medium' protection. All bookmakers must state whether they apply a High, Medium or No protection to customers' funds with the majority of bookies such as Bet365, Boylesports, William Hill and SpreadEx falling into the Medium category. What Makes Them Different?

Where traditional bookmakers only allow you to place fixed-odds bets, at SpreadEx, you can also place spread bets. If you haven't had any experience with spread betting, we recommend that you read up on it before placing any bets as it works differently to traditional fixed odds betting. Spread Betting is an exciting way to place bets and can be extremely profitable.

What Is Spread Betting?

When placing a standard fixed-odds bet with a bookmaker, you know exactly how much you will win or lose depending on the outcome before the event has even started. However, this is not the case with spread betting as the amount you win or lose depends on how close your prediction was to the actual outcome.

Spread Betting Example

Below is a typical spread betting example for the Total Goals market in a football match.

The Spread: 1.7 - 2.0

You can now decide if you believe the Total Goals will be above or below the spread. Also known as 'Buying' or 'Selling'. For example, if we thought that there would be more than 2 goals scored in the match, we would BUY.

You then decide on your stake per point. In the Total Goals market, 1 point equals 1 goal.

In this example, we will BUY £10 at 2.0.

Our profit/loss will depend on the total goals scored in the match as shown below.

• No Goals: -20 loss


• 1 Goal: -£10 loss


• 2 Goals: £0


• 3 Goals: +£10 profit


• 4 Goals: +£20 profit


• 5 Goals: +£30 profit


• 6 Goals: +£40 profit

The profit you can make from a spread bet is unlimited which is one of the main appeals. However, losses can also be unlimited when SELLING which is why it's important that you understand spread betting fully before placing any bets.

SpreadEx Fixed Odds Sportsbook

Ok, back to the SpreadEx Sportsbook where you can place standard fixed-odds bets like you can with any other bookmaker.

You may be slightly confused when visiting the SpreadEx website if you are looking to place fixed-odds bets as the spread bets are shown as standard. However, you can switch between viewing the spread markets to the fixed odds markets with the click of a button. Simply navigate to the event that you're wanting to bet on and click on the 'Fixed Odds' button. All of the odds will then change from the spread to fixed odds.

SpreadEx covers a good range of betting markets for the vast majority of sports with customers being able to bet on markets such as the Match Winner, Player Betting, Corners & Cards, Goals, Halves and more.

Bet Builder

The SpreadEx BetBuilder allows you to build a custom bet by combining various betting markets for the same sporting event.

You can choose between markets such as the Match Result, A Player To Score, Total Number of Goals, Players to be Carded, HT/FT, BTTS and several others.

For example, you could build a bet containing Man Utd to beat Liverpool, Rashford to score first, Over 11.5 corners, Salah to be carded and Liverpool to receive over 20 booking points.

#NameIt

#NameIt markets are similar to BetBuilder bets except that they have already been built for you. Other bookies have similar features with SkyBet having #RequestABet and Paddy Power naming theirs #WhatsOnPaddy.

Cash Out

The SpreadEx Cash Out feature allows you to end your bets early and either take a profit or cut a loss.

Cash out is available on a range of sports, markets and events at SpreadEx and users can cash out via the SpreadEx desktop website, mobile website or via the SpreadEx app.

To cash out your bet with SpreadEx, log into your account and click on your 'Current Bets'. A 'Cash Out Value' will be shown alongside eligible bets and you have the option to either select one-click cash out or partially cash out your bet.

Partial Cash Out

We always like to see Partial Cash Out available at bookies and thankfully, SpreadEx offer it. With Partial Cash Out, you can cash out an amount of your choice from your bet and leave the remainder to run on your bet. It's the perfect option for when you'd like to lock in returns but still be in with the chance of more returns should your bet come in.

How Good Is SpreadEx's Horse Racing Service?

SpreadEx covers horse racing from all around the world including the UK & Ireland, France, South Africa, North America and Hong Kong.

SpreadEx's racing odds are extremely reasonable, as are their odds on other sports and compare well up against other top bookies.

Unfortunately, horse racing betting offers are relatively scarce at SpreadEx meaning that popular offers such as Best Odds Guaranteed and Extra Places are not available.

Can You Stream Sports On SpreadEx?

SpreadEx do offer live streaming but unfortunately, it's rather limited. Currently, only streams of US Horse Racing and football matches from the Belarusian Premier League are available.

All available streams are free of charge and to access them, simply log into your account and look for events with the 'Play' logo alongside them. Provided that you are logged into your account, you will be able to view the streams by clicking on the event and then on the stream.

The SpreadEx App

There are dedicated apps for SpreadEx Sports Betting, SpreadEx Financial Trading and for the SpreadEx Casino.

The SpreadEx Sports Betting app allows you to place both spread bets and fixed-odds bets just like you can on the desktop website. You can also access all other betting features through the app such as cash out, partial cash out, pre-match & in-play betting, live streams and more.

The app works great considering you can place both spread bets and fixed odds bets through it with flicking between the two a breeze with just a tap of the screen.

SpreadEx Casino

With a SpreadEx account, you'll also get access to the SpreadEx Casino where you can choose from around 150 different games. Around 100 of those are slot games with a good mix of classic and new titles available such as Starburst, Dead or Alive II, Reel Rush, Lost Relics, Bood Suckers and more.

There is also a small selection of Blackjack and Roulette variations. However, the range of table and card games is rather limited.
