SBK is a relatively new online betting site that was launched in August 2019. Despite only being live for a short amount of time, the brand has gained a lot of popularity due to the company behind it and what they have to offer.

So, who is behind SBK?

SBK is a fixed-odds bookmaker from the online betting exchange Smarkets. Smarkets is considered to be one of the biggest and best betting exchanges behind Betfair Exchange and has been operating since 2008. They are a trustworthy and reliable company that has decades of experience in the betting industry.

SBK is a mobile-only bookmaker. In fact, it's an app-only bookmaker which means that you have to download the SBK app to access your account and place your bets. There is no SBK website either on desktop or via a mobile browser.

Despite being limited to placing bets via the SBK app, customers do gain one advantage when betting with SBK over other bookmakers - Better odds. We'll talk more about that later in the review.

Is SBK Safe?

One of the first things you should look at when betting with a new bookie is whether or not they are a safe and trustworthy company.

SBK is owned and operated by Smarkets Limited, who, as we mentioned earlier, own and operate the popular online betting exchange, Smarkets. Smarkets has millions of customers worldwide and have been operating for over 12 years and have built up a strong reputation during that time.

Both Smarkets and SBK offer the highest level of protection to customers' funds. This means that funds in customers' accounts are held in separate accounts to company funds and are usually handled by a third party so that in the unlikely event of the company going under, arrangements are in place to return those funds to customers. How Good Is SBK's Horse Racing Service?

Horse racing from around the world is available to bet on with SBK with races from the UK, Ireland, Japan, Australia and South Africa all covered.

It's important to note that the main attraction to and benefit of SBK is that you're often able to get bigger odds than with other bookies. However, by receiving this benefit, you are making sacrifices in other areas and in this case, it is the lack of betting offers.

Horse Racing Betting Offers

Unfortunately, betting offers other than the welcome offer are rare at SBK which means that racing offers such as Best Odds Guaranteed and Extra Places are not available. You'll have to decide whether your main priority when betting on horses is to get the best odds, or take advantage of racing offers. Personally, we would recommend having accounts with several bookmakers, including SBK, so that you can take advantage of the best odds when betting offers aren't available elsewhere.

So, how good are SBK's odds?

Horse Racing Odds

Generally, they're very good. this applies to all sports and markets and not just for horse racing.

As SBK is powered by the betting exchange Smarkets, the odds are very close to exchange prices which are almost always greater than what fixed-odds bookies offer.

For horse racing, we have found that SBK beats the bookies by the biggest margin closer to the time of the race rather than betting far in advance. This may be because there will be more liquidity on the exchanges closer to the off time which will cause the odds to reflect the true market value.

If you look at any of the popular odds comparison sites, you'll often find SBK offering the best odds for the majority of sports, events and markets.

Horse Racing Bets

Customers are slightly limited when it comes to betting options on horse racing. Of course, win and each way bets are accepted but you won't find any Head2Head or additional racing markets available.

Multiple bets are accepted but unfortunately, Lucky 15's are not.

Horse racing markets will initially be settled according to which horse is first past the post at SBK. The ‘weighed-in’ result will then be considered the official result.

What Makes SBK Different?

First of all, SBK is only accessible via the SBK app and not via a website. As the majority of bets are  placed via mobile devices, this should not be an issue for most potential customers.

The main thing which makes SBK different from other fixed-odds bookies such as Bet365 and Betfred is that they are able to offer better odds on many occasions due to being powered by the Smarkets betting exchange. For anyone looking for maximum value from their bets, this is a huge bonus.

It's not just the better odds that makes SBK different as they also offer a social aspect.

SBK Social Features

The SBK app doesn't just provide the ability to place bets as you'll be joining a community of bettors that you can connect with.

There's a host of social features within the app allowing you to:

• Find users who have been winning the most bets recently and follow them


• Create betting tips of your own


• Challenge friends in a betting league

Cash Out

Cash out is available with SBK and it applies to selected sports and markets.

Cash out allows you to end your bet before it has settled for a predetermined amount. For example, if you had a bet on Man Utd to beat Liverpool and the score was 2-1 with 5 minutes to go, you may prefer to end your bet at that point for a percentage of the potential return rather than risk your bet not coming in and your return being zero.

To cash out your bet with SBK, open the app and select the 'Open Bets' icon at the bottom of the screen. Any bets which are eligible for cash out will have a cash amount displayed next to them. Tap the cash out button to confirm you want to cash out your bet and end it early. The agreed cashed out amount will then instantly be credited to your account.

Auto Acca

Another nice addition to SBK is their 'Auto Acca' feature. Accumulator bets can be fun and have huge returns but they do take a lot of effort and are quite time consuming. With Auto Acca, those inconveniences are eliminated.

You can lunch Auto Acca from the menu at the top of the SBK app. From there, you simply need to select how many selections you'd like to include in your Acca - either 3, 4 or 5. Then, swipe downwards of the screen to spin and SBK will present you with a pre-made Acca with random selections. These can be for any sport, event or market. If you don't like the Acca you are presented with, you can simply swipe down again to reveal another one.

Although Auto Acca may not be for the serious punter, it is a fun and unique feature to have and a great addition to SBK.

Can You Stream Sports On SBK?

Unfortunately, live streaming of sporting events is not currently available at SBK.

In-Play Betting

When betting on live events, odds can fluctuate frequently and fast. Therefore, it can be difficult to compare odds between bookmakers to know whether or not you're getting the best value from your bets. With SBK, you can be more than confident that you're getting value with the prices on offer and this applies to both pre-match and in-play odds.

All in-play events that are available to bet on can be found by clicking on the 'LIVE' icon at the top of the app. There is a reasonable number of betting markets available for the majority of events but perhaps not as many as you would find at some other bookmakers. This may be because SBK uses the same betting markets as Smarkets and as a betting exchange, it doesn't provide as many markets as fixed-odds bookies.

The SBK App

As there is no SBK website, the app needs to work well. Thankfully, the SBK app is very good with it being easy to navigate and very fast to load.

All sports can be found by swiping left and right in one of the top navs and quick links to the Tips, In-Play and Auto Acca sections can be accessed above it. There is a search function to quickly find the event you're looking for and also two different layout options (expanded & condensed) which you can switch between via the icon in the top right corner.

Deposit & Withdrawal Options

SBK offers customers a number of banking options ranging from debit cards to popular e-wallet options such as Neteller, Skrill and PayPal.
